Last Day

Well, Today (8/20) was the last day of the 3 identical 2fer specials. Team Boudicca will be performing at Relay for Life, after all, on the 14th. We will make an appearance simplified from what we had originally planned. My family and I will be camping there, and hope to see many friends from the community there, as well, but Team Boudicca’s “Skeleton Crew” will be on site, only, and only for a few hours.

Additions and Subtractions

So my oils workshop cancelled, and I’ve added a new link to my site: Boudicca. This link is really a blast, as it’ll clue you in to performances of my belly dance teachers troupes; the one in which I’m a member, and the one in which I’m not, as I’m not yet instrumentally trained, and the other troupe is her band.
Performances by her troupes, and her events that include open floor dancing, are almost always local. (Sonoma County). Another addition to my list of current deals and steals in terms of massage is my current 2fer. Actually, I’m currently running TWO 2fers: Mothers Day and Fathers Day.
These TWO 2fer deals are identical, and the total cost of ea. deal is $70.
If you schedule for both deals, at the same time, I’ll discount the two deals so that the total cost will come down to only $130, instead of $140.
If you want to get in on either of both of these deals, just call before the end of July. I’ll run the same deal for 4th of July, and you can schedule anytime before Aug. 20th.
Another way to get a free half hour massage, anytime, is to sign up for one of my workshops. If you convince a friend to come along, you get a free hour, gift certificate, as the 2 of you walk in the door. ToastMasters is great, too. It’s a small handful of really fun people who want to improve their speaking/leadership skills/confidence, in a warm, welcoming environment. We give eachother only constructive criticisms, as it’s not a classroom astmosphere, and after the second meeting of the mo. (the 3rd Th of ea. mo.) we go to Finbar Devines, for more fun and good food.

Celiac Disease is a condition that causes your body to re-act badly to the ingestion of gluten. It’s a bit like having an allergy to wheat, but it’s a bit more complicated than that. When we eat anything with the protein that’s found in most flours, like wheat, white, barley, oats, rye, spelt, or kamut, my son and I have some real problems. It keeps us from being able to assimilate and use nutrients properly, after that, for almost a month. It strips the cilia from our intestinal tract, and then the cilia have to regrow.
Celiac Disease if often misdiagnosed, and can cover a whole host of symptoms. If you having problems with dairy and sugar, Celiac Disease could be at the root of those problems, and can trigger neuropathies, later in life, such as Alzheimers and ADD/HD and symptoms of what used to be called “retardations”.
Serious stuff, so if you have any suspicions, get a blood test, then have your kids tested, too. It runs in families.
Luckily, living gluten free is becoming easier, all the time, because it is becoming more commonly known, and the specialty grocery stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joes are keeping up by stocking up on products labeled as Gluten Free. If it says “Wheat Free” that doesn’t necessarily mean “Gluten Free” so WATCH IT!
There’s a great Magazine, that will get you started, because it has a good/bad foods list in the back. The Magazine is called: Living Without. It includes stories, letters to the editor, a Q and A section, recipes, the latest research and resources, etc.
The truth is that once you read this magazine, then do a bit more research and consciencious shopping, in the right stores, you won’t really be “living without” your favorite foods.

How Did This Happen?!

My son is at the stage, where he occassionally tries to disemble, or outright shift blame, for things like a suspicious puddle on the floor. He has no siblings or pets other than 2 caged rats, so the blame usually gets shifted to his Dada.
Such is not the subject of this posting to my “blog-roll”.
I actually had a more self-centered idea for this one. This one began with an epiphany that struck me, Today. Finally: I am the ME that I want to be.
I am no longer living in my Parents’ home, by their rules. I have created my own family, and am living my chosen lifestyle, and planning my days the way that I want them to be.
The key word there, was “planning”. I have harped on this a lot, in many of my blogs. Why should Today be different?
Things don’t change just because we wish them to change. In fact, we can’t really change our situation at all until we change ourselves. Check out the book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Franklin Covey. It will explain this fact in great detail, and how to change yourself if you really want to see change happen around you.
If we want to see change happen, then we have to be motivated enough to change our habits. We aren’t going to slim down or get a larger base of clientell coming through our door, by doing the same things we’ve been doing for the past x years. If I want to lose 10 more pounds, I have to add some extra exercise to my routine. I can’t just exercise once in a while, either, so I have to put it in my calendar, so that it happens a few days each week. If I want more people to come to me for massage, I have to constantly find new ways of making myself known.
These facets of my life, actually seem to be coming together, now. I see my belly dance teacher at least once a week, and it will be at least twice a week, soon, as I will be participating in my debute performance, early in ‘08. I’ll keep you up to date, in these blogs. We’re still working on finding a Venue, and then we’ll start figuring out costuming.
I’m also offering new massage deals all the time, and finding new and prominent places in which to display my business paraphanelia.
The 2fer deal is coming to a close so please get it while you can. I’ll have a New Deal to offer with the New Year. Watch for it.

New Stuff

Hmmmmmmm. What’s new?
Well, I have that new newsletter, that I mentioned in the last blog, and bus. is picking up since I started offering a 2 for one deal.

Other new stuff…….My hubby has created a Chess puzzle program for the NY Times. He has just done a major update on that site.
Americans everywhere are getting ready for Halloween, and Petaluma is no different. I hope to see my fellow Petalumans all out and about on Halloween Eve. and I hope that if you see a short Superman and a Tall Spiderman going round w/ a gypsy, that you’ll stop us and say hello. We’ll be somewhere in E. Petaluma.
My fellow PMCers are also often looking for good babysitters, so if you know of one, that you don’t mind sharing, I would love to have that info. to pass on.
One of the most vital of all community resources is the information that we share. I have used my site to share links to healthcare resources, and gaming sites, etc, and will continuing to use it so, and expanding on it in my newsletter, because as a Massage Therapist, I am constantly learning new things about alternative healthcare, among other things.
I’ve recently learned, for example that massage can help you to lose weight. I learned that as I was looking at Sparkpeople.com. You should really check that out, as well as EclecticHealth.com, for other healthcare concerns. Tell Josh Holcomb that I put you onto his site.
And, believe it or not, fun is an important factor in staying healthy, so I’m going to take this opportunity to tout John Crowley’s site: PubCrawler.com. His site will put you onto a lot of happenings around Petaluma that are both fun and educational, and that’s only the half of it.
As a parent of 4yrs. I’ve also learned how important it is to the community as a whole to support parents. Everyone knows that parents have the toughest job in the world. But do we take the time to think about what happens when that job doesn’t get done conscientiously? Maybe we only think about it in the face of gang violence, or when we see children suffering.
The children who are raised in love, are a different story, altogether. By stark contrast to the ones who are neglected or who’s parents neglect to teach them manners, the ones that are properly raised, grow up to politely help out in the community and to pull for legislation that protects the surrounding eco-system, and to generally just be a lot more fun to be around.
Parents can only do a really good and loving job of raising their children to be contributing members of our society, when their own needs are met. Parents need time w/ other grown-ups. They need time to vent, play, chat, relax, and especially to sleep! Here I have to give Kudos to the Petaluma Mothers Club. The mothers of the club have come thru for me, almost every time I needed more sleep or grown-up time, or advice on how to potty train. It seems like petty stuff, but if they hadn’t been there for me, my son would have had a much crabbier Mommy on many occassions.
So I guess that my main message is that helping us poor parents out is as easy as opening a door for a parent trying to maneuver a stroller thru, or stopping a run-away toddler, and that one tiny act of good sumaritanism can turn our entire day around. It may look like a Mom or Dad is breezing thru some child related project, and he or she doesn’t seem to need any help, but I guarantee you, that what seems is not always what is, and that parent may have already been doing that same duty for an 11hr. shift, if the other parent works outside the home, or is sick.
We’re not inherrantly feeble, or needier than people who don’t have children. I think it’s just that we appreciate help more than others, because we start to realize how little we can really take for granted, in comparison to our days B.C. (Before Children). I’ve also had women quite deliberately NOT stop my run-away toddler, when he scooted under a stall door, and ran away from me, into the mall proper, in Terra Linda 101. It was scarey, and the handful of ladies in the restroom just stood and watch him take off, as I tried to get my pants up.
Luckily my husband was just coming out of the mens room and caught him, but what could those other women have been thinking?!
Just another reason that I choose to live here in Petaluma, where I’ve found that people in my community are more likely to help me, in a pinch like that, and not just stand and stare stupidly while my son is at risk of becoming another statistic.
Kudos to you, Petaluma, and well deserved, so please enjoy my 2 for one offer while you can, because you deserve it.
