Back to the Posting Board

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged.  Sorry I left you all hanging.  Life’s been a bit crazy since summer began and we’ve just gotten a new dog a week and a bit ago.  She was 10 weeks old when she came to us.
She’s a little black Labradoodle, with what almost qualifies as a white blaze on her chest.  She’s quite smart, but we’re still working on getting her “civilized”  (house-broken).
She’s still teething so it’s much like having a baby again.  They even have diapers for dogs, these days, so things are a bit beter than they used to be.
…….Except maybe for my son.  I’m babying the pup a bit more than my own son, right now.  I insist on an early bed time w/ my son, while the pup is welcome downstairs, because she just lies quietly in my lap or on the rug at my feet, and demands nothing but company.
She hates the crate that she’s supposed to sleep in at night, so she cries most of the night, and we end up going to get her out 3 or 4 hours after we’ve put her in and putting a little puppy diaper on her.  Then I worry about giving her the run of the house, so I sleep with her so that she doesn’t chew anything really lethal.
Well, as you can imagine, this new puppy made life even more exhausting than it was, especially as we now have to keep things off the floors which were cluttered a foot or 2 high at the get-go, and the stuff just had no real place to live that had any logic to it.
The hubby and I each still had our usual work to do, and our son to consider when we both have to be working.
So I spent a lot of Yesterday driving, in order to keep my son happily out of his Dada’s hair.  I drove him to his friend’s place, then later I picked them all up and took them to his friend’s Tai Kwon Do class then realized that I hadn’t brought the books that I had wanted to return to the library which was on that side of town.  I actually went home while they were at Tai Kwon Do, and came back and we all ran errands together, and this was after my dance class.
This is all to say that I was a busy girl, driving all over creation Yesterday.  And Today, I’ll be taking my son to his Grand Ma, and then coming back to town to give a couple massages.
Well, as turn-about is fair play, Dada will be on duty on Friday.  And luckily the week-end is fair game for the family as a whole.
We do need to get organized a bit for our camping trip on the 19th.  We’ll be camping with the SCA at Duncan Mills.
A couple weeks ago, my son went with us on his first camping trip and caught his first fish.  It was a Rainbow Trout.  His Dada cooked it up for breaky on the camp grill.  It was delicious.  I highly recommend a freshly caught breakfast when camping.
I keep wishing that I could believe that camping turns out to be cheaper than other types of travel/vacations, but my hubby- ever the pragmatist- knows better.  I’m lucky to have him, because if I don’t mention the cost of camping, neither does he, and then I can let go and enjoy the experience.
I have found another new (to me) site called Zackle.com, and am wondering what my readers will think of it.  Please check it out and feel free to let me know through email what you think of the site.  My email:  Makodiak@juno.com
It’s rather like my Barter_lumans site, but maybe a bit more formal, with points for favors or favors for favors that can be exchanged as tender.  The difference is that it reaches out to a wider community than Barter_lumans which my co-hort and I started specifically for Petaluma residents, and now we’re considering how to open it up to all of Sonoma.
Please pass on the word about these two sites, and let your friends know that I’m very open to comments and questions or suggestions.  I’ll talk them over with my co-hort who is really the brains of the operation.  I really only came up with the idea, and she managed to put a base of operations on line for me.
Her name is Soneile Hymn, and she gets Kudos from me for turning this germ of an idea into something workable for the community at large, when I really didn’t know what to do with the idea myself.
Happily I knew enough to know that I didn’t know, and put it out to the community to see if anyone with some skill with a computer wanted to help me neatly package the idea in such a way that we could share it on-line.
So now you’ll find my idea in Yahoo Groups.  It’s a group called Barter_lumans and Petaluma Residents are welcome to join.  The idea is to put the word on the bulletin board that you have a service or product for which you are willing to barter or trade, and what you might like in return.
Please be aware that I just booted someone from the site who joined using the handle “Petalumapervert”.  Patently, this is not what the site is for.
I will be keeping close watch on the site for appropriateness of content.  I’ll be reading the messages that get onto the bulletin board and checking out the members to the best of my ability.
I know it’s rather exclusive making, but I want only nice people using my site to work with eachother in an ethical manner, so some Netiquette is definitely in order if you care to join.
I’ve also recently found a Net community called Black Berry Scouts.  They’re rather nature/permaculture/fun activities oriented.  They try to do things that cross boundaries of age, socio-economics, and political affiliations.  Those facets of our life really shouldn’t come into play when we play together.
They’re planning a lot of camping trips together for the summer and every Tues. there’s a social (usually) at Willard Libby Park in Sebastapol in the late afternoon.
Bundle up for that if you’re coming.  It’s cool and breezy there, a few blocks from the ocean.  Introduce yourself if you come.  I’ll be the 5′1 or ‘2 gal w/ the 6 yr. old, blond and active son (maybe a bit smallish for his age) and when we finally all meet, I may even be able to bring my pup with-out fear of her contracting Parvo………
I’ve no clue what that is.
Enjoy your summer, and hope you enjoy checking out the sites I mentioned if you haven’t come across them already.
Yours in Service.
