The Amazing Doings of Sue Hirsch- CMT by day……….

Friday, February 20th, 2009

You’ll have to excuse the title.  I was very excited to be able to log into my blog again, and my life really has become more exciting, lately.
If you are reading only to find out about my current specials, scroll down a ways.  I’ll make it clear when to stop scrolling.
Many of you have been coming to see me for massage, and I have recently discovered the SCA.
No, it doesn’t mean Sonoma Calypso Association.  it means Society for Creative Anachronism, altho it might be a fun idea to start up a sort of Calypso music type choir in Sonoma……
I must highly recommend to all my readers that you look up the Society for Creative Anachronism, and if you enjoy participating in re-enactments, get involved.
The members of the SCA like to think of themselves as an educational organization.  The members educate eachother in the arts and crafts of the Renaissance age that interest the individuals.  They also have contests around these arts and crafts, including but not limited to archery, cooking, “mock” sword fights or tourneys, textile arts, metal and wood working, dance, etc.
So while I love being a CMT by day, I’ve come to the conclusion that I need a bit more in my life to keep it interesting, and fun, and this will be a good way for my son to learn a little bit about the really good parts of the middle ages.
We’re much more enlightened now, of course.  We don’t use leeches as a cure-all, anymore, and we don’t burn people at the stake, because they know herbs, etc.  but there were some wonderful things about the Renaissance times.
We used to sit down to meals as friends and family more, and sing long into the night, and tell stories and riddles.  Acts of chivalry were honored and people took pride in their handiworks which they sold or often bartered- another lost art.
So the SCA reminds us of, and reteaches us all these lost arts, and gives us safe haven, for a while from our mundane lives, in a setting and atmosphere of renaissance costume, and revelry and the pomp of “courts”.

AND NOW BACK TO THE MUNDANE OF MY CURRENT SPECIALS:

I have decided to do one half off day ea. mo.  This has already gotten a huge response, so if I get enough clientelle asking for appts. I’ll probably open it up to 2 or 3 days/mo.  Remember to call ahead.  My schedule varies greatly, so I can only work by appt.
Also, I do give group discounts.  20% off is the usual group discount:  SCA, PMC, Other parents groups, Connections, Mentor Me, etc.
Another item that might interest my readers:  Some of you may have heard about the oils class that I was going to teach thru Petaluma Adult School.  It never came to fruition for lack of students signing up, but now the word seems to be out, and I will be applying to teach that same class again, next term.  Please watch the catalog.  My listing should be under wellness again.
Lots to do Today.  Hope your lives are exciting as mine is, just now.
Enjoy Dear Readers.
